Dr. Steven Kinnear can provide Wegovy and Mounjaro prescription weight loss medications, recently licensed for use in the UK.
Wegovy contains the drug Semaglutide, which belongs to a group of medicines called GLP-1 receptor agonists. Mounjaro contains the drug Tirzepatide which acts on both the GLP-1 receptor and the GIP receptor. These drugs work by suppressing your appetite, keeping you feeling fuller for longer, and helping you achieve and maintain a reduced calorie intake.
These medications are licensed for use in people with a BMI of 30 or more; or for people with a BMI of 27 or more, in the presence of one or more weight-related co-morbidities and is an adjunct to a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity to achieve and maintain weight loss. These drugs may be prescribed outside of their licensed indication at the discretion of a Doctor, if they feel it is appropriate.
One of the benefits of both Wegovy and Mounjaro is the once weekly dosing schedule.
Wegovy starts at 0.25mg per week and can be escalated to a maximum dose of 2.4mg per week over a 16 week period if required and tolerated.
Moujaro starts at 2.5mg per week and can be escalated to a maximum dose of 15mg per week over a 20 week period if required and tolerated.
Each Wegovy and each Mounjaro pen contains 4 doses, with one dose taken each week. So each pen provides for one month of treatment.
