You will need an ML5 medical certificate if you fall into any of the following roles:
Master of a passenger vessel that operates in inland waters only (Class IV or V)
Master of a commercial vessel that does not go to sea
Crew member or master of a fishing vessel under 24 metres
Master or crew working on a small commercial vessel certified for
Area Categories 2–6 (operating up to 60 miles from a safe haven)
Crew or onboard staff (including roles such as catering) regularly working on a
seagoing domestic passenger vessel (Class VI or VIA)
Applying for, renewing, or updating an MCA Boatmaster’s Licence or certificate
Applying for a Royal Yacht Association (RYA) commercial endorsement to work on coded vessels
