Dr. Steven may not be able to backdate the sick note to a date preceding the consultation date if he is unable to verify your state of health prior to the consultation

If you have already consulted another healthcare professional about the illness (e.g. a physiotherapist for back pain) it is helpful if you bring details with you to your GP appointment.
